marytwo is honored to announce a two-person exhibition of emerging artists Nina Emge (*1995 in Zurich, Switzerland) and DonChristian Jones (*1989 Philadelphia, USA). Resonance is the third collaboration between Kathy Battista and marytwo. Following the group show Youth Hostel in 2022 and Claudia Bitrán’s monographic exhibition Broken over the top in 2023, Resonance takes the form of an improvisational dialogue between two young artists.
Emge and Jones, despite living and working on different continents, have much in common: practices rooted in collaboration and social transactions are at the base of their positions. Spanning installation, performance, sound, and choreography, Emge and Jones interrogate what art can be and resist a singular, commodified object. For example, Emge has recently worked on a project with elderly residents of a care home and Jones founded a community center in Brooklyn that fosters LGBTQIA+ creatives.
Nina Emge (*1995 in Zurich, CH) lives and works in Zurich and Berlin. She completed her Bachelor in Fine Arts at the Zurich University of the Arts with honours in 2019 . Her works and performances have been exhibited at the Istituto Svizzero in Palermo (2024), Lagos Biennale (2024), Kunsthalle Bern (2023), Cabaret Voltaire (2023), Kunstverein Braunschweig (2023), Frac Bretagne (2023) and Halle für Kunst Lüneburg (2022), among others. She has received a work grant from the Canton of Zurich (2022) and has participated in several residency programmes, including Junge Akademie der Künste (2024), Siena Residency Amant (2023), Frac Bretagne (2023).
DonChristian Jones (*1989 in Philadelphia, USA) lives and works in Brooklyn, New York. He graduated from Wesleyan University in 2012. DonChristian’s work and performances have been exhibited at Hauser & Wirth Los Angeles (2023), The Shed (2021), Brooklyn Museum (2019), MoMA PS1 (2018), Whitney Museum (2015), among others. DonChristian founded Public Assistants Inc. in 2020, a mutual aid network and community design lab based in Brooklyn, and this year won the Adobe Creative Residency from MoMA, New York.
